Leigha & Max had one major goal throughout their entire wedding planning, & photography followed this desire – for every moment to feel real & authentic to who they are.
I am so honored we got to capture this authentic wedding day on digital & film, because it all centered around real moments. That means some typical wedding things, like detail photos, are not a part of this blog because Leigha & Max cared more for candid moments with their people to be captured then time spent on photographing their shoes & rings.
This meant a fun new challenge for me: To capture details unexpectedly, & genuinely.
By capturing details of shoes & rings as they adorn the couple, rather than propped up in a window or bookshelf.
As we entered into their first look, I set up Max before walking to bring Leigha to the same spot.
As I walked inside I saw a precious moment of Max’s sister peering through a window at him & giving him reassuring thumbs up. These are the moments I live for.
Then, it was time for the two to see each other for the first time on the day they say “I do”.
After their first look, I gave some subtle prompts to help them feel
comfortable in front of the camera, to provide an avenue for them to act as they would if we were not even there.
Part of their wedding goal, only doing things that felt authentic to who they are as a couple, meant they wanted 0 posed group photos with their friends.
Instead, we set aside time before their ceremony for Leigha & Max to turn on their favorite playlist & laugh & vibe with all their closest friends. The moments that followed were their “group photos”.
As family started trickling in,
Max spent some time showing off to his grandmother the wedding band he will soon get to wear every day, & Leigha received some nerve relaxing hugs from the dog the two of them share.
Then, it was time for the ceremony.
Their friend officiate, which helped both laughter & tears of joy flow freely, from Leigha & Max, as well as their guests.
Another moment demonstrating how truly real Leigha is
took place right as the ceremony ended. She walked down some steps alongside her now husband Max, & immediately took of her shoes. Absolutely iconic, truly.
Cocktail hour, as always
came with reunions, cheers shared, & bubbling excitement for the reception to come.
Leigha & Max took over the dance floor alone for 30ish seconds
before inviting all their guests to join them for the slow dance of the night, & then flowing into toasts.
After the final toast, it was time to TRULY
dance the night away.
I am so amazed by Leigha & Max. The way they stayed true to
themselves & their love, through not doing any tradition just for the sake of doing it, but instead making intentional choices about everything from their group photos to deciding not to do a cake cutting. Let their wedding be an example that, as much as you can, try to hold onto the parts of a wedding that feel authentic to you, & let go of the traditions that are not.
