In part I of Jessica & Salaam’s love story with us
we saw them get married at the courthouse, surrounded by their closest friends & family members, & then celebrate their union at an intimate dinner in Brooklyn. It was magical to say the least.
Having a dinner celebration, though, was not a part of their original plan. While they were thankful for the way things evolved into including their loved ones, their heart & priority was always to showcase their love in the neighborhood & places most important to them for their elopement. So, two weeks after they became legally wed, we met up once again to capture their story at their home, on the train, & at the rooftop where their love first began.
Starting with the intimacy that comes with getting ready together set the tone
for the rest of our time together as we set out on the streets of BedStuy – a tone of love, care, comfortability, & laughter. I get chills every time I reflect on walking these streets with them, hearing stories about different important moments in their relationship together with every turn.
Now, it was time to journey on the J train,
the train central to the every day experiences Jess & Salaam share. Sadly (for me, Viet, & all of New York, but happy for them), Jess & Salaam are moving out of New York soon. With the forthcoming move on the horizon, these photos showcasing as many facets of their life in Brooklyn as possible carry that much more weight. These are the heirlooms & the memorials of their life in New York, that will be showcased in the home they’ll be making down south. We are honored we got to be the one’s to capture it.
As we exited the Myrtle Ave stop, Jess & Salaam
guided us to the apartment where they first fell in love, in the midst of a pandemic, quarantined together with a rooftop to access fresh air. It was pure nostalgic joy as we got to the top of the walk up & out into the golden hour sun basking the rooftop in warmth on this October day.
With their romantic dance as husband & wife
coming to an end, it made for perfect timing as the pizza delivery was making it’s way to the apartment. Salaam kindly went down to retrieve it, & it was time to feast & toast in celebration of their everlasting love!
Jess & Salaam may be closing the chapter
on Brooklyn, but their story is only beginning, & I am honored to have a front row seat to everywhere their journey is going to take them, as they have undoubtedly gone from clients of ours to friends.
